Goalkeeping With PSA

We aren’t just here for strikers. Prolific Striker Academy (PSA) are also proud to offer high-level goalkeeping training, aimed at 7-18 year-olds, to help youngsters develop the unique set of skills which go with this key position.

Goalkeeper Training

Our academy sessions are held at Bishop Justus school, Magpie Hall Lane, Bromley, BR2 8HZ every Monday from 7pm – 8.30pm.

We ensure that we work in small groups (no more than 6 boys per coach) where the contact time between coach and player is maximised.

Through our focused practice designs and creative session plans we can target the four areas which are crucial to player development.  Since the role of a goalkeeper is one of the most distinctive on the pitch, our professional goalkeeper training focuses on the core skill set which are fundamental to the role.

Perhaps there was a time, many years ago, when the position of goalie an afterthought but thanks to superstars like Manuel Neur and David De Gea the popularity of the goalkeeper has come a long way. Playing as a goalkeeper comes with its own skillset, which young players can begin to learn at an early age. With professional goalkeeper training, young kids can get their careers off to a flying start.

What special coaching points can goalkeepers benefit from?

Spatial awareness – A goalkeeper’s main job is to control the goal area, knowing where key players are at all times – both team mates and opposition.

Communication – It’s up to the goalie to tell their defence what they need from them.  In order to be effective, they need their words and gestures to be delivered clearly, confidently, and to convey the needed meaning.

Handling the ball – This is one of the key goalkeeping techniques we can help with.

We incorporate sports science and functional movement patterns into what we do, so that our keepers are agile and have the coordination to action the challenges we set them. In doing so, our strength & conditioning coaches have a 30 minute block to work with each group on our training night.

Monthly membership is priced at £60.

The benefit of our academy is that our keepers can put into practice what they have learned as the striker and keeper groups come together towards the end of each session.
